History
The Borzoi is a sighthound that originated in Russia, bred for hundreds of years by Russian nobles for hunting wolves. They were popular with Tsars before the 1917 revolution and for centuries, could not be acquired unless gifted by a Tsar. During the Romanov rule, nobles would host enormous hunting events on their estates, bringing in a hundred or more Borzois. The breed almost went extinct during the revolution, as many were killed off along with the Romanovs and their nobles.
Breed Characteristics
While not all Borzois share the exact same personality and temperament, there are certain generalizations that can be made about the breed. In addition to genetics, a dog’s environment, training, socialization, and many other factors all contribute to their personality and behavior.
