History
The Brittany was developed in the Brittany region of France during the 1800's. Tapestries and paintings from the 17th century depicting Brittany-like dogs suggest that their close ancestors were popular birding dogs. Brittanys became an established breed when Brittany-like dogs were likely bred with English Setters in order to develop as versatile of a working dog as possible. Brittanys are known to be effective hunters and retrievers of any type of game bird.
Breed Characteristics
While not all Brittanys share the exact same personality and temperament, there are certain generalizations that can be made about the breed. In addition to genetics, a dog’s environment, training, socialization, and many other factors all contribute to their personality and behavior.
