History
The Brussels Griffon originated in Brussels in the early 1800's, bred by coachmen to keep rats out of their stables. In the 1870's, Henrietta Maria, Queen of the Belgians, took a liking to them and boosted their popularity amongst the upper class. Kennel keepers refined the Brussels Griffon to make the body smaller and face more human-like.
Breed Characteristics
While not all Brussels Griffons share the exact same personality and temperament, there are certain generalizations that can be made about the breed. In addition to genetics, a dog’s environment, training, socialization, and many other factors all contribute to their personality and behavior.
