History

There is some debate amongst historians as to where and when the Greyhound originated. Some believe that they originated as long as 5,000 years ago in Egypt, used by Pharaohs to hunt in the harsh desert climate. Others believe that they actually were developed from herding breeds in Europe, with their close ancestors having been bred by ancient Celts from Eastern Europe or Eurasia. Regardless, greyhounds are skilled sighthounds that were bred to be able to see slight movements in wide-open spaces.

Breed Characteristics

While not all Greyhounds share the exact same personality and temperament, there are certain generalizations that can be made about the breed. In addition to genetics, a dog’s environment, training, socialization, and many other factors all contribute to their personality and behavior.
