History
The Saluki is one of the most ancient dog breeds and is believed to have originated in the Fertile Crescent about 6-7,000 years ago. Depictions of Saluki-like dogs are seen on pottery from Susa in ancient Mesopotamia and drawings of Salukis can be found in Ancient Egyptian tombs from 2134 B.C. onward. The regal-looking breed has been a popular sighthound amongst royalty for thousands of years.
Breed Characteristics
While not all Salukis share the exact same personality and temperament, there are certain generalizations that can be made about the breed. In addition to genetics, a dog’s environment, training, socialization, and many other factors all contribute to their personality and behavior.
