Depictions of Saluki-like dogs are seen on pottery from Susa in ancient Mesopotamia and drawings of Salukis can be found in Ancient Egyptian tombs from 2134 B.C. onward. The regal-looking breed has been a popular sighthound amongst royalty for thousands of years.
