History
The Silky Terrier originated in Australia around the end of the 19th century. It is likely that they are the result of crosses between Australian Terriers and Yorkshire Terriers, possibly with some Cairn, Dandie Dinmont, and Skye Terriers thrown in the mix. Silky Terriers generally served the role of companion animal, although they were known to be skilled at killing snakes.
Breed Characteristics
While not all Silky Terriers share the exact same personality and temperament, there are certain generalizations that can be made about the breed. In addition to genetics, a dog’s environment, training, socialization, and many other factors all contribute to their personality and behavior.
