History

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon originated during the 1800's somewhere in continental Europe. The man responsible for the breed, Eduard Karel Korthals, was the son of a rich banker and wanted to craft the ultimate hunting dog. He bred a long line of griffons, finally producing the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, a breed that excelled as a gundog on land and as a retriever of game birds in water. It is unknown exactly where they originated, but most experts think they are either Dutch or German.

Breed Characteristics

While not all Wirehaired Pointing Griffons share the exact same personality and temperament, there are certain generalizations that can be made about the breed. In addition to genetics, a dog’s environment, training, socialization, and many other factors all contribute to their personality and behavior.
